If you are on a psychic development journey, or just curious about the 'extra' senses, this post covers general information regarding each psychic sense, or Clair, and gives suggestions for developing each one. I hope it inspires you to continue to learn more about lifting the veil & connecting with the unseen. Remember, the most important aspect of developing your Clairs is to trust in Spirit, and yourself.
Clairvoyance
Clairvoyance, or CLEAR SEEING, is the psychic sense that comes to mind when most people think of psychics. It is the most well-known of the Clairs, but it is also one of the most misunderstood. Often, it is used as a title for psychics, even though it is just one of six Clairs through which we can receive messages. We tend to limit ourselves with words and titles, which can hinder our understanding of our full potential.
Spirit communicates through ALL the Clairs, and how we receive these messages depends on our openness and natural strengths. Clairvoyance specifically refers to the ability to receive visual information from Spirit. This can manifest as symbols, pictures, colours, or visions, which can be seen through our mind’s eye or in dreams. You may also perceive auras, orbs, and even spirits or guides.

Activating Clairvoyance
To activate this Clair, it is essential to open and clear your Third Eye chakra. Some individuals may naturally possess these abilities; for instance, you might have an active dream life, see colours around people or animals, or have had ghostly encounters. However, these senses are not exclusive to a select few; like any skill, they require practice and development.
If you are a visual person—perhaps an artist or someone who appreciates beauty—you may find that Clairvoyance becomes one of your psychic strengths with persistence and practice.

Developmental Exercises for Clairvoyance
There are numerous ways to develop this Clair and open your Third Eye. Here are some exercises to consider:
Aura Observation: Have a friend stand against a plain wall and try to see their aura. Focus on one spot, like their forehead, and allow your vision to relax. You may soon start seeing colours around their body. Research the meanings of these aura colours to deepen your understanding.
Visualization and Guided Meditation: Use guided meditation recordings to explore different scenarios and environments in your mind. This can help enhance your visualisation skills. Spend time in meditation visualising different colours, symbols, or images. Start with a simple colour and gradually build to more complex images. Trust what you see and note any feelings or messages that come through.
Dream Journaling: Keep a journal by your bed to record dreams and any visions you experience. This practice helps you to recognize patterns and symbols that may arise in your subconscious.

CLAIRSENTIENCE
Clairsentience, or Clear Feeling, is the ability to feel or sense energies outside your own physical body. The lines often blur between being Clairsentient and being an Empath, as it involves feeling others' emotions, picking up on shifts in mood or energy, and even sensing the presence of Spirit.
This Clair is activated from the Heart or Higher Heart chakra, and it is essential to include the Solar Plexus chakra due to its role in personal energy awareness and establishing boundaries. Understanding what is yours and what is not is crucial when working with energy, as is managing fear, one of the biggest blocks to psychic development.
Experiencing Clairsentience
A Clairsentient experience differs from experiencing your own emotions; it is more subtle and short-lived. You might feel a twinge in the same area as someone else's injury or experience an unexplained mood shift in a room. Awareness and grounding techniques can help you gain control over this gift.

Developmental Exercises for Clairsentience
Here are some exercises to help develop your Clairsentience:
Energy Scanning: Rub your hands together to generate energy, then hold them about 20 cm away from your body. Begin to scan your energy field, noticing any sensations or feelings.
Grounding Techniques: Practice grounding exercises to help manage overwhelming sensations. Visualize roots extending from your feet into the earth, anchoring you and providing stability.
Psychometry Practice: Once you feel comfortable, practice psychometry by holding an object that belongs to someone else and tuning into the feelings or sensations that arise.

CLAIRAUDIENCE
CLAIRAUDIENCE, activated via the Throat, Third Eye, and minor Ear chakras, is our psychic, or 'clear' HEARING. This Clair allows us to hear beyond physical sounds, receiving messages from our Higher Self, Spirit Guides, Angels, and more. Clairaudient messages can come in various forms, such as single words, sentences, or even songs stuck in your head.
Activating Clairaudience
Are you often told you are a good listener? Are you musical? You may be a natural Clairaudient. Taking time to listen to the sounds around us and to be mindful of our own thought processes are ways to activate our Clairaudience. This Clair may need a bit of practice as we easily get confused or are quick to doubt what is us and what is Spirit. The clarity of a psychic message over our own mess of thoughts is obvious once you learn the difference.

Developmental Exercises for Clairaudience
To enhance your Clairaudience, consider these exercises:
Sound Isolation: Tune into a specific instrument in a piece of music. Focus on following that instrument while blocking out others. This practice strengthens your ability to discern subtle sounds.
Listening Meditation: Sit in a quiet space and close your eyes. Focus on the sounds around you—distant noises, the wind, or even your breath. This practice helps you develop your listening skills.
Voice Journaling: Record your thoughts or messages you receive. Listening to your own voice can help you differentiate between your thoughts and clairaudient messages.
CLAIRCOGNIZANCE
Claircognizance, or Clear Knowing, refers to the psychic ability to receive impressions through a profound sense of inner knowing. It’s that moment when you just know something without any logical explanation- an undeniable certainty akin to knowing the sun will rise each morning!
Experiencing Claircognizance
Examples of Claircognizance include persistent intuitive thoughts, ‘A-ha’ moments, and the spontaneous flow of wisdom directed to the right person at the right time. You might experience prophetic insights about how situations will unfold without understanding why, or gain knowledge about people or places you have never encountered before. These ‘illuminated’ thoughts arise immediately and clearly, independent of a train of thought, as if answers bubble up from nowhere.
This ability is linked to the Crown and Soul Star chakras and is nurtured through trust, awareness, and connection to the Divine. Much of the information received through Claircognizance is often described as a ‘download’ from your Guides, Angels, or Higher Self.
If you identify as a left-brained person- someone who is logical, analytical, and a sharp thinker, who enjoys reading, writing, and learning- you may naturally possess Claircognizant abilities.

Developmental Exercises for Claircognizance
To enhance your Claircognizance, consider incorporating the following developmental exercises into your routine:
Meditation - Meditation is essential for developing Claircognizance. It helps you quiet the mind, raise your vibrational energy, and connect deeply with your inner self and the Divine. Aim for daily practice, focusing on your breath and inviting clarity and guidance.
Automatic Writing - This technique involves writing without consciously thinking about what you are writing. Set aside time to allow your hand to flow freely across the page, letting thoughts and insights emerge naturally. This can help you tap into your intuitive knowing.
Mindfulness Practices - Incorporate mindfulness into your daily life. Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings without judgment. This heightened awareness can help you recognize moments of Claircognizance as they occur, enhancing your ability to trust your inner knowing.
Connecting with Nature - Spending time in nature can ground your energy and open your senses. Engage in quiet reflection or meditation outdoors, allowing the natural world to inspire and connect you with your intuitive self.
Trusting Your Intuition - Practice trusting your gut feelings. Start with small decisions and gradually work your way up to more significant ones. The more you trust your inner guidance, and understand the difference between intuition & psychic message, the stronger your Claircognizance will become.

CLAIRALIENCE & CLAIRGUSTANCE
Clairalience, or Clear Smelling, and Clairgustance, or Clear Tasting, may be lesser-known but are equally important. Clairalience allows you to smell psychically, often evoking strong memories or emotions. Clairgustance enables you to taste psychically, which can provide insight into health issues or emotional states.
Experiencing Psychic Taste & Smell
Clairalience is often received as a waft - here, then gone, one that no one else can smell. The scent can be anything from flowers to smoke. Our loved ones in spirit can do this with a scent associated with them when they were living - a perfume, cigar smoke, a favourite food. This Clair can also be experienced as a warning or that some may ‘smell’ certain emotions or energies. It can also be associated with past life memories.
Clairgustance is often very closely linked to other senses. It can be experienced as detecting someone’s health issues or emotions as a certain taste - eg. a metallic blood taste might indicate a certain health problem , or knowing a dearly departed loved one is with you because you can taste the cake they used to make you, or even that a decision or situation, perhaps even a person, leaves a ‘bad taste in your mouth’ causing you to walk away.

Developmental Exercises for Clairalience and Clairgustance
To develop these Clairs, try the following:
Scent Meditation: Light a scented candle or incense and close your eyes. Focus on the scent and see if any memories or messages arise. Or try a blindfold test - close your eyes and test yourself with attempting to recognise different essential oils or fragrances.
Tasting Meditation: When eating or drinking, pay attention to the flavors and sensations. Notice if any emotions or insights come to you while you engage with the taste. Or in meditation, place yourself in a kitchen and imagine different foods and drinks being placed in front of you, really feel yourself eating them and try to 'taste' each item.
